Immortal Monday is taking the next couple of weeks off. But being me, I couldn’t leave you totally empty handed. Having covered the Greek gods on several occasions I thought you might enjoy exploring the myth of Athena and Arachne. I’ll let the video do the talking.
This is one interpretation. Have you heard of another?

You learn something new every day 🙂 Thanks, Debra. Hadn’t heard of this particular myth before. Not so scared of spiders now.
I’m glad that helped with your fear of spiders. It does shine a whole new light on them. 🙂
That was so cool. I love the illustrations. I’ve never heard that one before, so the ending was a fun twist. I should have guessed from the weaving and name lol 😉
You never know what you might get here on Immortal Monday Elisa. Glad you enjoyed the animation. The name sort of does give it away, doesn’t it?
Have a great vacation! We’ll be here waiting to hear all about your trip when you get back.
Thanks for the myth info!
Thanks, Susie. I’ll be camping with the kids next week. I am in a writers course right now for the next several weeks. I am trying to give more focus to my writing. I’d like to finish the books!
You’re welcome for the myth. Maybe it will come in handy some time. LOL.
What a brat Athena was! Poor Arachne. I’ve never heard this myth, but now I’m curious if there was more to it than just vanity on Athena’s part.
Aren’t we finding out that so many of the gods were brats? LOL. But I have heard conflicting reports as to why Athena turned her so… According to this video she is a total brat! Yes. 🙂
Wah! I can’t get the video to play – must be my machine. So I went and read wikip and a couple of other sites. They all seem to have the same story, Anhena turning Archne into a spider, are there other versions?
Cheers!
🙁 You’re not in the US, are you Nigel? England? That might have something to do with it. I’m not sure. The differences don’t have to do with the fact Athena changed her, but her reasoning for doing so. Some say she was jealous, some she was upset at how Minerva (Arachne) depicted the gods in her art. I didn’t do as much research this week as usual since I am dedicating more time to writing and my writers class.
Cheers!
I couldn’t get it to load either. Sounds interesting, turning him into a spider! Yikes! Hope you have a great vacation, Debra, and get lots of writing time. Take care!
I don’t know what happened to the video. I just reset it. It should work now. Thanks for stopping by Lynn!
vacations!
Yes, vacations! Summer vacation going on here with the kids. No free time for me. It makes blogging practically impossible. Will you be vacationing? How about sending in a picture for the vacation post? 🙂
Have a wonderful time off, Debra. And thanks for the unexpected bonus 😀 Before the video there was the new Batman movie’s trailer and I saw it for the first time.
Great animation and an interesting story. Athena was one of the nicest of the Greek gods and didn’t often give into pettiness. Poor Arachne. At least she got a kind of immortality as a spider.
Glad you got to see the Batman trailer. Doesn’t it look interesting?
I suspect there was more to the story. Athena may have been provoked more than the animation depicted. In my quick look around that was some of the discrepancy I saw.
I’ve never heard of this either. And while I can say poor Archne…I STILL hate spiders. Happy vacation to you. 🙂
And you can feel comfortable knowing you are not alone in saying it. Plenty harbor a dislike for the creepy crawlies.
Thank you, Kristy. I don’t know if it’s a vacation so much as simply more time to work my writer brain on class work and deal with school free kids. LOL
