Nothing pulls me free from two weeks of migraine pain better than a swift smack from Thor’s hammer.
(Excuse me if this posts rambles a bit. It’s coming right off the cuff, with the kids at my side, begging for attention.)
There I was, minding my own business, curled up in my own little misery with my pillow, when―BAM!
To tell you the truth, I had been unable to properly process any thoughts or follow through with even the simplest of tasks. I pushed my way through the required end-of-school activities, anxious to return to the comfort of my bed. If I wasn’t sleeping, I was mindlessly watching episodes of Doctor Who.
Who doesn’t love Doctor Who? Honestly, in the beginning I had trouble getting past his first transformation (in the the reboot series), but now David Tennant is my favorite Doctor. I think the Time Lord deserves his own Immortal Monday post. What do you think? Should it be some day soon?
Anyway, it was Matt Smith (The Eleventh Doctor), who popped up on my screen yesterday to say…
Yep! There was mail waiting for me on my computer. Ted Strutz published his piece about Thor’s visit. I had to see it for myself. Our little plastic god has made many stops, but this was to be his first male host. And what fun I had reading it. I invite you all to zip over to the marvelous TedBook blog for Ted’s very entertaining post about the arrival of our little plastic Norse god.
Oh, no! You too? I’ve had the worst headache for three weeks. I’m miserable. Don’t want to read, write, watch tv, or do much of anything. And I’m starting to feel like I’ve lost my mind.
Three weeks, seriously? Do you see anyone for your headaches? There are so many things that could cause them. Have you had your eyes checked recently? That was a problem for me not all that long ago. All the computer screen work has taken its toll. It hurts to focus on things for very long now. Do you keep a headache journal? If you don’t you probably should think about doing so. You might find something that keeps popping up, a reason for them. I hope you feel better soon. I know what it feels like and it sucks. I start to ache and go stir crazy after too many hours in bed. That why I opted for the television on low, but when they are at their worse I can’t even fathom that. I have every window and door properly covered to turn my room DARK. That’s probably what you need. {{Hugs}}
I hope you’re feeling better! That really stinks. Here’s to better days! 🙂
Thank you, Coleen. It’s so funny. I had an appointment with my neurologist today and for someone who loves to write, I am horrible at keeping my headache-journal. Must get better at that.
Be sure to stay tuned to the next installment of Thor’s Adventures in the Great Pacific Northwest! You had better be careful… Thor may become jealous of the Dr. It seems you have David Tennant Eye Candy plastered on your blog for awhile. Chris won’t like that… you don’t want a Mjölnir Headache!
I am primed and ready for your next installment. Can I comment now? Must head back over there. You are so right, we don’t want to make the might (little) god angry. 😀 I’ll try to be careful with all non-Thor eye candy.
I don’t envy you at all. I used to get them all the time, but after my youngest was born, I got one more that required an emergency room visit…and since then I only get one every two or three years. Maybe you need to have another baby. 😉
Hope your migraine is history…for a good long while.
I’ve done the emergency room thing and found it a big waste of my time. They gave me the drugs and I felts dizzy as heck. I threw-up once I got home and passed out. After I woke up my headache was just as big as it ever was. Yesterday was my first pain-free day. This evening it is threatening to come back. I say, “NO!”
I don’t know what I’d have done if the shots hadn’t worked. Fortunately they always put something for nausea in them (throwing up in the waiting room bathroom usually helped me get it sooner, though it was NEVER on purpose). Then I’d sleep for 13-14 hours. As long as I didn’t breathe wrong or sneeze for the next day or two, it would stay gone.
You poor thing. I suffered from terrible migraines all through my childhood and teen years but thankfully grew out of them. Every time I started seeing dots, I knew what was coming and was terrified. Hope you’re on the mend, Debra.
I’m glad you grew out of it. Lucky you! Horrible that you had them at all. I am on the mend, thank you. I’ve dealt with headaches all my life, but they have been really nasty since my son was born. Hopefully I will get a handle on them some day soon. They are much better than they used to be. Thank goodness for that.
Sorry to hear about your migraine. I know how debilitating they can be and mine only usually last for a day or two… As for Thor, he’s hunky. I always have time for him.
Confession: I’ve never watched Dr Who and have never felt the need to. :-/
Thank you, Kitt. When I disappear you can be fairly certain it is one of two things: family or the headaches. As for Doctor Who, like I said, I originally didn’t make it past the first season. Due to all the hype surrounding the show I decided to give it a second try. Since then I haven’t cried more to any other show on television. Yes, cried. And that is a good thing. I get so emotionally vested in the characters that I care too damn much what happens to all of them and the writers keep messing with me. Just sayin’. Or maybe I’m just hormonal. LOL.
I have to admit that the fourth doctor was my favorite because I watched him in the ’70s when I was a kid. Oh, yes, I’ve been a Whovian for a long time. It took me a long time to watch the new series though, but I’m loving it–especially seeing Sarah make appearances. Cannot wait for the 50th anniversary show when many people come back–including Tennant! Off to go read about Thor now. 🙂
(SPOILER ALERT – Others don’t read if you haven’t watched the show and don’t want hints of things to come) I am so excited for the 50th! I never watched the original, but really want to catch up on the previous doctors and plan to very soon. I’ll make sure to check out doctor #4 for sure. Despite the perfect setup of River and the Doctor, I’m still in love with the idea of Rose Tyler and the Doctor. Can’t help myself. I keep wondering if she still has her version with the world being reset since that whole episode.
Yikes! I hope you’re feeling better now. Migraines are no fun. I’m so sorry you were feeling bad. At least you had the Doctor to keep you company. That’s not too shabby at all! Feel better my friend. Huge hugs and get-well wishes to you. Off now to read Thor’s latest adventure.
Yep. The headaches are no fun. My doctor – not Doctor Who – wrote out a new prescription that I will be trying out the next time this comes around. Should be fun. Now that summer is here the kids haven’t given me ANY free time. Sigh. I told them we need to head in your direction for some fun one day soon. 😉
