I believe it’s time for a little monster fun. No, it’s not Immortal Monday and I don’t mean the kids as they attack the presents under the Christmas tree. Although, that would be fun as well.
I know. It’s not a picture of kids ripping open shiny boxes. But this over zealous “Buddy” reminds me all too much of my youngest. I couldn’t resist.
So, if I’m not talking about little munchkins, than what exactly am I hinting to? Could it be this guy?
Nah. I don’t think so. But I do admit to being slightly consumed with the thoughts of big hairy creatures at present. With Christmas right around the corner and the classic animated Rankin/Bass movies gracing the screen, this guy might be at the forefront of my mind…
But alas, he isn’t the right monster either. The poor abominable snowman. He wouldn’t have been so bad if it weren’t for that terrible toothache.
Give up? I’m thinking of everything from Harry and the Hendersons to Sasquatch Mountain. That’s right, it’s the Yeti’s cousin – Bigfoot, a creature steeped in myth and lore. Many claimed to have caught a glimpse of such a creature, or something out in the woods they can only attribute to one such beast. Others laugh it off as crazy delusions. Where do you stand on the matter? Serena Dracis presented an interesting theory we don’t hear too often. It could explain why the big guy isn’t spotted more often.
Author Pamela Foster often talks about her family’s history involving Bigfoot, her grandfather’s sighting and the subsequent search for him and proof of his existence. With all this history taking place in Humboldt county and the Arcadia area I was immediately drawn in as that was my sister’s stomping grounds before her death. I’ve walked through those woods and along those city streets. The things Pamela describes are familiar to me and I can easily see Bigfoot making a home among those towering redwoods.
Bigfoot, there’s so much mystery surrounding this guy. Could he be a future topic on Immortal Monday? Possibly. But today he’s something more.

It’s a collection of short stories by various authors, all dealing with Bigfoot sightings. There’s something for whatever your particular encounter taste may be. Finally, I need to thank you, my readers. You challenge me every day to be a better writer and without you I wouldn’t be where I am today. There is always room for improvement and growth, but without you and our interaction, the process would be a hell of a lot slower.
I can’t say I’ve had any bigfoot encounters but I’ve had experiences in the wilderness that left me scratching my head and wondering out loud “what just happened”? I think there’s a natural energy that’s around us all the time that we have “devolved” away from over the past few thousand years and when we get into areas that are wild and without the distractions of the modern day environment stuff happens. My take on bigfoot is like Carl Sagan’s answer when questioned about the existence of aliens. He said ( paraphrase here)”I don’t believe in them because we have had no proof that they are real. However if we ever get proof I won’t be surprised”. I look forward to reading Serena Dracis theory and Pamela Foster’s Bigfoot Blues..
Now you have me curious as to what kind of experiences these might be. Could this be a future post topic for you?
You’ve reminded me of Charlie’s (the little kid) line in The Santa Clause. He looks at Neil (his step-dad) and says, “Have you ever seen a million dollars?” (Neil reluctantly answers no) “Just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”

An indie filmmaker friend picked up and moved to this tiny town in Oregon where they have the highest number of Bigfoot sightings in the country. She’s working on her next screenplay there, and it’s…you guessed it…about Bigfoot. She wants to start filming her Bigfoot film next year, so by 2014 it’ll be ready. Great post!

I believe there could be many a creature out there smart enough to avoid humans, But I believe Nessie is out there over Big Foot, easier for a sea monster to hide. But still you never know and I wouldn’t rule it out.

I been tracking my own mysterious creature for the past eight years it’s called a good man. Have you ever see one? They say they exist but I haven’t seen one in a long time and when I do they are already caught by someone. But Alas, my search continues…LOL.. just a bit of humor P.S. but if you do see one send it to Kansas City.
Oh, that’s a tough one, CJ. A good man is hard to come by. They adapt and camouflage nicely into the environment. They don’t make it easy for others to single them out. I wish you luck in the hunt. Make sure you carry a good BS detector at all times. 😉 If I run across one I’ll do my best to send him your way.

I was a “reading aware” teacher in my special ed section and was in charge of our “library”. This was because I was in charge of the reading program for our group and had about 1100 books in my room for the students to choose from. I loved this. However, one parent meeting, the mother was upset and handed me a book about Bigfoot. She told me her child was reading this and had gotten it from my library. I remembered the cover and agreed. Then, she asked me if I had read it. I told her no and she had me look through it. This “children’s” book had Bigfoot going to a drug rave and getting a girl pregnant! Needless to say, the book no longer graced my shelves! “Children’s book” my …!

That’s been an on going problem with children’s books. Everything from picture books to new adult is thrown under the heading of “children’s book.” What you describe there sounds like a dark or edgy YA. Definitely not for the school shelf. There needs to be a better way of categorizing or possibly rating the books. Although I can already see some upset over that as some would fear their books would be unjustly tainted and rated by content. It does give you something to think about though. I’m sure it isn’t anything that hasn’t been considered already.
But, you are right, somehow, it needs to be done. Perhaps, even, a CB-6 for Children’s book and age and up.
Okay, I don’t know what was going on with my reply. I must have been multitasking and failed miserably. LOL. To date, if you look at book up in the AR Finder system you can find what age or grade they are intended for (that is IF the book is in the system), but there needs to be something on the book itself that is quick and easy to find for the parents and teachers when they are hunting down books for their children/students. Your idea is a good one, but in no way a simple undertaking.
