Ask and You Shall Receive – A lot! – Question Meme

You asked for it, although, for the life of me I can’t understand why you’d be so interested. 😉 That’s right, I got tagged with the fun get-to-know-you meme. It was all kinds of crazy! I was one against many as they threw their tags at me.  Who got me? Well, let’s take a look shall we?

Dang! Can you see that? Four colors. Four! I got tagged four times. That means there will be a whole lot of questions for you to wade through. Ugh. Sorry folks. Who is responsible for doing this to my blog and you, my readers? Check out these fabulous bloggers if you aren’t already following them: Karen Rought over at The Midnight Novelist, Angela Wallace, Alica McKenna Johnson, Melinda VanLone.  Each of them threw at me eleven questions, more or less . I’ve answered them, attached respectively.

Rules:
1. You must post the rules.
2. Answer the questions and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
3. Tag eleven people and link to them.
4. Let them know you’ve tagged them.

Questions: From Karen Rought at The Midnight Novelist

1. Book or movie and why? The book, of course! Don’t get me wrong. I love, love, love movies! But the book is ALWAYS better.

2. Real book or e-book? Definitely the real deal. I have a ton of books on my kindle, but find myself more driven to finish a book when I have the original I can flip through my fingers. There’s something about seeing my progress old school.

3. Funniest thing you’ve done in the last 5 years? *looks around* You sure you’ve got the right person? I do crazy, reckless, stupid and a mirage of other things, but funny? Nah – not really.

4. How would your best friend describe you? Um, don’t know. I’m not in her head. You’ll have to ask her.

5. Do you put yourself into the books you read/write or the movies you watch? I am guilty of the fantasy, especially when I write. I have been every character. How better to understand their emotions and motives.

6. Favorite kind of car and why? I happen to love the car I drive. I’ve gotten rather spoiled by all the little extras. BUT a Camero always turns my head. Except I want one that really turns into an Autobot. Bumblebee would be nice. Thank you very much. 🙂

7. Would your choice of party be a catered meal or barbecue out back? Who’s cooking? Because if I’m the one in charge of the barbecue you may want to go with the catered meal. Just kidding. That’s a hard one. I love them both. They each have their place. But I’d probably have to go with a barbecue. The more relaxed events seem to be my style lately.

8. What’s your favorite season and why? Again, a hard one. I love the rain. I love the new blossoms in spring, the change of the leaves in the fall and the beautiful sunshine in summer. Of course, not having to do kid homework during summer is an added benefit. LOL

9. What specific lesson have you learned – Spiritual, educational, occupational? Wow, that’s a biggie. Definitely spiritual. But that’s really too big to go into here. Let’s just say it was life changing.

10. Besides writing, what’s your favorite thing to do when you get some extra time? Read, sleep, catch a movie, do small to medium home improvement projects. When the kids are older and complain a little less I will be able to add a few more items to that list.

11. What’s one place you can be found at least one time every week? At the computer. Oh, wait. Did you mean besides that? Hmm. It’s unfortunate, but the need to eat drives me to the market each week to restock the pantry and refrigerator.

Questions: From Angela Wallace at Elemental Magic

1. If you could live in a fictional world, where would that be? The one of my creations, of course. Nope. Not going to tell you anything about it other than it will be found in my book series.

2. Do you read in noisy or quiet places?  It needs to be quiet. I find noise a constant distraction that tends to pull me out of the world I’m reading about constantly.

3. What was the first book you ever read? Dang! Is your memory that good that you can remember? I haven’t a clue. I do recall reading a lot of Nancy Drew and Judy Bloom novels. I recall loving Flowers in the Attic as well.

4. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be? Any one book would become too much for me. It would drive me to madness. I have experienced this with movies I thought I could never tire of. My kids taught me otherwise.

5. Favorite author? That’s just wrong. That’s like asking someone who their favorite relative is. Don’t get me started on that. I have a post on that one.

6. Do reviews influence your choice of reads? Yes and no. If there is an overwhelming amount of negative reviews I tend to listen. I don’t put a lot of stock into positive reviews because I have often disagreed with them. In the end it’s all a matter of choice.

7. Fiction or Nonfiction? Fiction. Always fiction.

8. Have you ever met your favorite author? No. I have never had the pleasure.

9. Audio books or Paperbacks? Paperbacks. Although, I have wondered if I might get more done with an audio book while I drive or multi-task – i.e. wash dishes and do laundry.

10. Classic or Modern Novels? Definitely modern. Let’s not require interpreters to understand the book.

11. Book Groups or Solitary Reading? No book groups for this girl. I am a solitary reader.

Questions: From Alica McKenna Johnson at Arm Chair Adventures

1. What is your dream vacation? I plead the fifth.

2. Are you spontaneous? I want to be but haven’t had much success in becoming so. Depending on what we are talking about, it’s hard to do when you have kids and pets depending on you.

3. One thing you want to do, but don’t dare do? Having trouble with this one. There are lots of things I want to do. But the reason I’m not doing isn’t because I wouldn’t dare. It’s usually about something else. Any of you have something good ?

4. What’s your biggest phobia? Fitting in with large groups of people that already click. This is why I stood on the outskirts as far back as kindergarten.

5. If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you want with you? (not including your laptop or family.) Personally, I don’t think there’s any better answer than Alica’s.

6. Name three blessings in your life. My family! Good health. Food on the table and a roof over my head. Oops. Apparently I can’t count.

7. What was your nickname in high school? Zera – I wore a lot of black and white. Senior year after the prom they started calling me Red  – for my prom dress.

8. If you could meet the President of the US what would you say to him? If you didn’t have to jump through all these hoops and get things passed through congress and such what would you like to change? Let’s not go there. I try to stay away from politics on the blog. No matter which way I go on the topics there is going to be someone passionate for the opposite argument. Politics don’t belong here.

9. If you could be any literary character for a day, who would you be? Only one?

10. A favorite quote? “Good to go.” It may be silly and obscure, but I catch myself using it all the time.

Questions: From Melinda VanLone at Demons and Dark Chocolate

1. If you could go anywhere in the known universe on vacation (no money worries) where would you go and why? No need to go out to the ends of the universe, there is a lot of this world I have yet to see. I have been dying to go to Italy. We’ve had too many trips planned and cancelled. I want to see Pompei. I’d also like to visit Ireland.

2. If you had a superpower, what would it be? Was it Samantha that mentioned throwing fire? That would be pretty damn awesome! But I’d probably manage to burn down my kitchen. Something I could use on a daily basis that would benefit me greatly would be the ability of teleportation like Nightcrawler.

3. If you could be any character in any story, who would you be and why? Good question. Many come to mind for their passion, grace or kick@$$ abilities, but I’d have to go with Valek from the Study Series for his superior mind.

4. Milk or dark chocolate? So dark chocolate. I already stashed a bad in my suitcase for my writerly week away. Mmmmm – chocolate.

5. e-books or paper? Swim upstream for that answer. You’ll find it there.

6. What book are you reading right now? Phoenix Child by Alica McKenna Johnson. Damn you, Alica! I need to be writing, need to be reading. What a mess I have. Also reading The Art of War for Writers and Revision & Self-Editing both by James Scott Bell.

7. What was the last movie you saw? Did you like it? The Hunger Games. Ask me again after I see it in a respectable theater. You know, one where the audience has been taught to watch the movie and not talk to it or through it. Grrrr – pet peeve

8. What was your favorite toy as a child? I loved my Dawn Dolls. I was such a girl. 😀

9. Are you a morning glory, or a night owl? Night owl – sheesh. I am attempting to train my body to survive without sleep. Not really. But that would be really cool, wouldn’t it?

10. Favorite movie quote? See above. Weren’t you listening? Err, reading?

11. What was your favorite book while growing up? I can’t recall. Books and reading weren’t something strongly encouraged in my home as a child. I didn’t get the bug till much later.

Tag, You’re It!

What’s that? You noticed that, huh? That’s correct. There are no names listed. I figured this meme had pretty much made the rounds. There are a few people still holding out, but for the most part I think it’s bee done. I am leaving it up to you. Want to play, pick eleve questions for any of the 100,000 listed above. 😉 Be sure to let me know if you do! I’ll want to be sure and visit that post. Thanks for stopping by to learn more yawn worthy stuff about yours truly. Hehehe

Oh, yeah! I could drive / ride in Bumblebee. How cool would that be? And teleportation? I can see some usefulness there. Nice answers, Debra. This was fun! Thanks for playing.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Wouldn’t that be something? There is a Camero in our area painted just like that with the Autobot symbol on it. My son points it out to me all the time. Of course he would notice. Nothing gets past him. Hehe And just think of all the driving time you would save with the ability to teleport. That would be awesome! I could save hours! It would be so worth it. Plus, if need be, you could avoid bullets and “stabbing weapons.” See how I was able to throw in my Arnie quote there? 😀 Thanks for stopping by Lynette!

  2. EmmaEmma

Yay, another Night Owl! What did you think of The Hunger Games, despite all the noise from those around you?

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

I liked the book. The jury is still out on the movie. I don’t know. But I felt that way about the Matrix and I LOVE that movie now. I have this sinking feeling I will be disaPpointed with the book series in the end. Will I? I want Katniss to step up and kick some @$$. *grins*

      • EmmaEmma

She does step up and kick ass, don’t worry. I thought the first book was the best of the three though.

        • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

The next two books are in my TBR pile. I hope to get to them soon. 🙂

  3. All About Writing (look, not a food blog!) hahaAll About Writing (look, not a food blog!) haha

Debra this was so much fun to read, I definitely needed to know more about you. I learned we have a lot of things in common too, but then I figured that when I just felt drawn to you and you were always so sweet, so…
    I’m glad you shared!

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Thanks, Nicole! I wondered about that ever since you chimed in on the one Immortal Monday. I can’t cook to save my life though. You got me there. I know you are trying to fatten me up with all your yummy posts! 🙂 I just adore you! You are the sweetest thing! So glad I met you. 🙂 Now it’s your turn to share. 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

I was so addicted! Hated the movie! I couldn’t believe what they did to it. 🙁

  4. August McLaughlinAugust McLaughlin

Wow, you are a diligent question- answering trooper! Having fun with Qs & As on my blog today, too. By the way, I’m happy you restock your kitchen with food, and am not surprised you’ve ‘been’ your characters–sign of an artist. 😉

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Yeah, you know, we kind of like to eat. It’s a silly habit. 😀 Thanks, August. Imagine our characters as they walk down the grocery aisle shopping for their favorite foods. Now there’s a project for me considering where they have been recently! Hehe. It will give me some new insight into their way of thinking. Stopped by your blog already and saw your fun answers. What a great time everyone is having with this!

  5. Angela WallaceAngela Wallace

I saw a bumper sticker once that said, “Caution, this vehicle transforms into an Autobot.” Very cool.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

I have the bumper sticker! But I don’t put stickers on my car so I put it on a giant magnet and stuck it on the refrigerator in the garage. I thought my son would get a kick out of it. 🙂

      • Angela WallaceAngela Wallace

Haha! So if it’s a fridge transformer, what does that make it?

        • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Did you see any of the movies? If you saw the first one when the cube brought the vending machine to life I suspect it would be similar to that. I better pray that should that day come we find we are harboring an Autobot and not a Decepticon. That would so suck! LOL

  6. Jennette Marie PowellJennette Marie Powell

You know I love set 1, #6. I haven’t seen my Camaro transform yet, but it does have a mind of its own! It usually says “faster, faster!” 😀 It has all the cushy bells & whistles too. I don’t know how many kids you have, but if fewer than 3, you should check one out. Thanks for a bunch of fun answers! Mine tomorrow.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

I’ve been trying to talk my husband into one so that I can drive it. His car will need to be replaced next. I’ve owned 2 Cameros in the past and moved up to the SUV when I needed more space to haul all the props and accessories for the fashion shows. When we got married the husband told me I would not be getting another Camaro because I drive TOO fast for a car like that. LOL. Apparently I made an impression one time a long time ago. My daughter is always telling me to drive faster too. My son will be the one to point out we are breaking the law. Too funny.

      • Jennette Marie PowellJennette Marie Powell

LOL… V6! The perfect blend of practical and fun. Then again, they go plenty fast too… trust me, I know. 😀

        • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

I don’t do V6. 😀 Just saying. LOL Although, with gas prices I should consider it. Sigh.

  7. Fabio BuenoFabio Bueno

Wow, you’re a trooper. Forty-four questions? Even tax forms are shorter.
I empathize with your phobia, and I have the same pet-peeve regarding people talking in theathers.
    And Yeah! for paper books!

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

You know, I had to take a speech class in college. I was scared as hell. They paired us up and had us ask questions of each other so that we could introduce the other. My partner asked the most embarrassing questions I didn’t know how to answer. When he went in front of the class he proceeded to announce the most insane and personal things about me. I was mortified! But it helped me get over some of that fear and I actually did fairly well in that class. I think that’s what we need to do when it comes to crowds. It’s scary as all get out, but we never get past it if we don’t put ourselves out there. Right? I say as the lump gets lodged in my throat. Ugh. Somedays can be harder than others for us introvert types, can’t it?

  8. jansenschmidtjansenschmidt

Fun questions and answers. Thanks for sharing. They’re not yawn-worthy at all.

    Patricia Rickrode

  9. Sheila SeabrookSheila Seabrook

I agree with Jansen, not yawn-worthy at all. Now, about the dare question … I remember a post you did a while back where you related the tale about riding in the trunk of the car without the owners knowing you were there. Seems to me that girl was up to a dare or three. 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Ha ha! It didn’t even require a dare to get me in the back of that car. How bad is that? 🙂 Thanks for making me laugh out loud. 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Every time I think I have it nailed I’ll read a new book and change my mind. It’s like the flavor of the day or something. I guess it just depends on my mood. I suspect you are much the same way. Thanks so much for coming by. I think we should all have our own robot cars. What fun life would be! Hehe

  10. Karen McFarlandKaren McFarland

Wow, 44 questions? I had 33, but chose to just do 11. You’re a trooper Debra!
And I couldn’t agree more. I think everyone has been tagged by now, so I didn’t pay it forward either. Whew, we got this one out of the way! Great job! 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

How did you ever choose? I would have felt guilty and bad for the people I left out. That’s just my personality. I’m nothing if not loyal to my friends. I owed them their answers. Yes, there was a lot of tagging. Let’s run around twitter tagging everyone. Tag, tag, tag, tag….. 😀

      • Karen McFarlandKaren McFarland

Well Debra, you are a much better person than I am! But then I’ve known that all along! And now I’m feeling guilty for not answering the other questions. *sighs*

        • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Don’t say that! Not true! I call foul! I just meant, did you flip a coin, close your eyes and point. What? See, I’m not a better person for making you feel that way. You shouldn’t feel guilty. This is a guilt-free zone. Not allowed here!

  11. emmaburcartemmaburcart

Wow, I feel like I know you so much better after all those answers!

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Did I manage to give you some fresh insight? I failed to mention so many things (insert evil laugh here).

  12. Angela Orlowski-PeartAngela Orlowski-Peart

Awesome job with answering sooooo many questions! And your answers are so much fun 🙂 I’m glad I stopped by today.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

😀 Thank you, Angela! I’m so glad you found my answers fun. Apparently I screwed some of them up so there are more to come in a response soon. Can you believe it? That’s what I get for all this late night blog writing. I haven’t mastered the art of writing in my sleep yet. I’m trying though. LOL

  13. lynnkelleyauthorlynnkelleyauthor

That’s what I like about these question tags and awards, we get to know more about you. Kudos to you, Debra, for answering all those questions! Dang! I enjoyed reading them.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Well, I was just having fun with it. I couldn’t imagine anyone would want to read answers about “lil ‘ol” me. Go figure. Thanks Lynn!

  14. alicamckennajohnsonalicamckennajohnson

Wow- you did get slammed with a lot of questions! I’m thrilled you’re enjoying my book, sorry I’m distracting you from your writing 🙂 I was called Red in high school, but I have red hair so it wasn’t that creative.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

There are a few questions. I wish I could tell you what page I am on, that is the thing I really don’t like about ebooks – I can never tell. 🙁 I can only see how many dots are lite to how many aren’t. But I have now isolated myself in an unknown location for a week all for the purpose of working on my book edits. There will be no pleasure reading. Sorry. Sara/Sapphire will have to wait. Neither one of us had very original nicknames – using the color of your hair and my clothes. People need to use their imagination more. LOL

  15. Kristy K. James...Living, Loving, LaughingKristy K. James...Living, Loving, Laughing

What a fun post. Wow….Flowers in the Attic, and Petals in the Wind for that matter, really creeped me out. But I’ve never forgotten those books. Not sure I’d ever read them again though.

Loved your answer for a favorite (author?). My son always asks me what my favorite (food, drink, movie, etc…) is. I just say it depends on the day and my mood, then list a few that I really like. Who can narrow anything down to one?

I don’t know what Alicia said but my desert island wish would be: 1. A helicopter, enough fuel to get back to Michigan, and a pilot to fly it. I couldn’t get into that whole Robinson Caruso thing. 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Those books made a huge impression on me as well. I’m sure it had everything to do with the mother. What kid doesn’t want their mother’s love? That was so messed up.
Exactly, my thoughts on who I like the most is always changing depending on my mood of the day. I had to use my favorite author as a key for some site somewhere. Lord help me if I ever need to use that to unlock something. I’ll be all, “Who did I like that day?” LOL
You have an excellent answer. Alicia’s answer was for a boat, a captain and lots of water. But I had thought about the fuel and wondered about simply drifting without aim. 😐 Wait till you see what I say to Karen in a minute. It will be posted in a response.

      • Kristy K. James...Living, Loving, LaughingKristy K. James...Living, Loving, Laughing

Yay! Like them on FB and Twitter please. I guess there’s a chance that it will be cancelled after this season because viewers dropped 30% this season. BOO!!! Anyone who likes it needs to like them on FB and Twitter. And they also have some interactive thing going on Twitter. I don’t want it to be cancelled!

LOL…love your answer about the island! A vacation sounds pretty good. 🙂

          • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

I already “liked” “Fringe” a long time ago on FB after meeting the cast at Comic Con one year. I admit to not following shows and bands in my twitter feed though. It’s a shame that the good shows always struggle. That always happens to me. Did you ever watch “Dead Like Me”? Loved that show. It was funny and brilliant. Gone.

            • Kristy K. James...Living, Loving, LaughingKristy K. James...Living, Loving, Laughing

No, I never caught that show. I don’t watch much television andwouldn’t have known about Fringe except something grabbed my attention on Hulu last year. Now I own the first and third season on DVD, although the third season was actually supposed to be the SECOND, only I clicked the wrong link. I keep forgetting to order the right one…and I need to rectify that soon….because I LOVE Fringe! Especially Joshua Jackson. Mmm! 🙂

You should follow the show on Twitter. You wouldn’t have to interact with anything they post, just help to get the numbers up. I’ll be heartbroken if it’s cancelled.

  16. Karen RoughtKaren Rought

Aww! Those actually weren’t my questions that you answered. 🙁 Still, those were some great responses!

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

You’re right! Dang. I copied the answers you answered and not the ones you gave us. DOH! Okay…
      1) See other answer in the 43.
      2) Interior design.
      3) Spun out all the way across the freeway and back again in the middle of heavy traffic. I just knew that was the end of my new car. 🙁 But she came out unscathed.
      4) Big hair! Come on, you know you miss it! Just kidding. I can’t think of anything. Sorry.
      5) My dad. Miss you daddy.
      6) Ireland! No, wait. Italy. No. Ireland. Crap.
      7) Cooking. Others could benefit from that one as well. People like my husband and kids! 🙂
      8) Hmm. Are you really going to make me answer that? There are a few I love. It’s hard to name just one. GoT, Fringe, VD, and I think Ringer is under rated.
      9) A yacht, enough fuel to reach the nearest continent, a competent captain, my husband and kids. It has now become a vacation! See how I did that?
      10) A cat. Love cats. I want to adopt a tiger!
      11) Gosh. I’m a huge work in progress, but one thing you will always get with me is honesty. I believe in putting the truth first. I believe in people and want to see them success. In order to do that we all need to be honest with ourselves. I know, I sound like a crazy loon. But I promise I’m not just blowing smoke up your ar$$. Argh.

~ There are your correct answers my lady!

  17. Reetta RaitanenReetta Raitanen

Great questions and I loved reading your answers. I agree with Lynn that memes like this are a good way to get to know someone a little better.

Flowers In The Attic and the sequels made a huge impact on me too. Virginia Andrews’ estate is still using her name and producing ghost written books. I also loved Nancy Drew books as a kid. And that series is still ongoing. And Nancy is still 18. Bizarre.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

It’s funny, I recently saw a Nancy Drew book. I believe she got a makeover. I didn’t recognize her. LOL I can see how young girls would still be drawn to that type of story though. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right? As long as she’s making money the storyline will ride! Woo hoo!

I’m not surprised to hear about Virginia Andrews’ estate. Someone saw a chance to keep the money coming in with a well known name – what the hell! Should we be surprised? I haven’t read a Virginia Andrews book since I was a teeny bop. That’s been a loooong time.

I’m glad you enjoyed my answers. That was simply me being me. 🙂

  18. Kourtney HeintzKourtney Heintz

Debra, I’ve been every character in my book too. And in other books, let’s just say I made up characters in Harry Potter just so I could daydream my way into Hogwarts. 😉

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Ha! I love that Kourtney. Now I want to read Harry Potter again and create a character specifically for me. What fun! I’m already mulling over names. It must be perfect. Hehe

  19. Tameri EthertonTameri Etherton

You are so frikking funny. I love this meme and getting to know you more was a riot.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

LOL. Am I frikking funny? Thanks! 😀 Maybe it was too much sugar! Hehehe. Now I wants me my Bumble Bee car! We could have a spanking good time in one of those!
