T is for Travel, Texas, and Thor!

Back in the early 1990’s my father and I flew out to Texas and had the opportunity to tour Austin and the surrounding areas. We liked what we saw and took the family back for a week’s vacation. We enjoyed some R & R at Lake Travis, went shopping in Dallas, explored the famous caverns in San Antonio as well as enjoyed the San Antonio River Walk, and toured the Alamo.

The Alamo. Oh, the time we spent there. I can still remember my father taking forever reading every little plaque, only to get angry with the last one stating the fort was a replica of the original. Ha! We spent all that time and it wasn’t even the real deal. I bet you all knew that, didn’t you? Well, my dad didn’t at the time.

But Texas had amazing flavor and a zeal for life. It was contagious. Oh! And the best marinated mushrooms I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. I have yet to find a mushroom that comes close. It was the mushrooms that clenched the deal. We bought ourselves a duplex in the beautiful Austin area. It was a safety net. It things ever went to crap in Cali, we could move to Austin. As it would be, I have yet to make it back there. Thor beat me to it.

THOR! Thor waved goodbye to our gracious reader, Trese, and hopped the train from Issaquah destined for Texas and Diana Beebe.

After all, what would a trip around the world be without a stop in Dallas? Did he get to see cowboys and eat BBQ? Nope, but he thought about potato salad and almost got arrested for rustling horses! That was just the beginning.

D ↑Thor doesn’t look too happy about his predicament. Does he?↑

Cyber hop on over to Diana’s blog and read up on Thor’s latest:

Thor Isn’t a Native Texan

Thor’s tour is growing, adding more stops all the time. It’s not too late to get involved. Drop me a line or leave a comment if you would like to participate in this fun blog hop. To see where Thor has been and where he has yet to go visit the Thor World Tour page.

Thanks for stopping by. I always look forward to your comments. Until next time, au revoir.

Thanks for letting Thor visit me in Texas. It was a blast. Sounds like you saw a lot of the state when you were vacationing with your family as a kid. Your dad sounds like my husband and me–reading all the historical markers along the way. You should visit again.

I should visit again. I would love to walk along the River Walk once more and tour the caverns. I’m sure there’s so much more I haven’t seen as well.
My husband reads every little thing, too. It’s hard to keep the kids occupied while we wait for him.

That was great, wasn’t it? Looks like Diana showed him a great time.

I was so excited when he arrived in time to go to the basketball game AND I had tickets. So much fun!

Thor in Texas = Unforgettable. Thank you so much for hosting his entertaining world tour, Debra.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

You’re so welcome, Reetta. Can’t wait till he head’s your direction.

Your poor Dad. My father would be so annoyed, too. He loves history and visiting heritage attractions.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Love your new picture, Emma! It’s rather funny how that placed that plaque at the end of the tour rather than the front. Guess they wanted to make sure people spent there time first, just in case. LOL.

      • EmmaEmma

        Exactly, a good marketing ploy.
        And thank you 🙂

Thor is larger than life, just like Texas LOL. Oh, and I was with your Dad…I didn’t know the Alamo wasn’t real either. Austin really is beautiful, isn’t it? Painfully hot and steamy in the summer, but an awesome city anyway.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

It was hot when we were there, but for some reason it didn’t bother me. What did bother me was the way the stores seemed to over compensate by keeping the temperature a little bit overly cold. It was from one extreme to the other. Thor seemed to handle it well. But then it isn’t summer.

If you decide to visit Texas again, let me know. Tiffany A. White and I have a list of haunted places we want to tour. And we might even visit Bonnie and Clyde’s graves as an extra added bonus. 😉

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

That sounds extremely enticing. I would love to do something like that. I’ll be sure to let you know. Thanks, Catie!

Oh that crazy Thor! The torment he must endure to see the world.

If I’m still on the list, Hubby and I will be taking our annual WDW trip in September. We’d love to have him tag along.

September is pretty far out. By my calculations, the way the list stands now and the rate Thor’s been moving from place to place it might work out having you at the very end. That’s assuming no one else jumps on. So… looks like we’re saving you for the grand finale.

That picture is hilarious Debra! I think as far as world tours are concerned, Thor’s takes the cake. 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Diana gets all the credit for the picture. It was her masterpiece.

By the way Debra, I just clink on your link above to Diana’s blog and it’s not working? Bummer. 🙁

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Hmm. I just double checked every link and they all appear to be working. Maybe the internet was twitchy?

  9. Diana BeebeDiana Beebe

Oh, no. I just saw your note, Karen. Please try it again.

It’s not the real Alamo? Spoiler alert! 🙂

Scott and I could totally tour together ~ I’m a plaque reader as well. Sometimes I get lazy and just snap a pic of it to read later (which I always do).

I’ve only been to Dallas, but want to see much more of the state. Someday.

Thor’s tour is so fascinating! That god sure knows how to get into trouble. The hat’s hilarious.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Did you read Catie’s comment above? I totally want to do that. I’ve wanted to take a trip to Bodie for some time now, as well. I don’t think that trip would interest Scott, but it would seriously interest me.

That Thor! At it again. I’ll have to go and see what he’s up to! 😀

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

That Thor is a busy one. Every host has been so good to him. 🙂

Loving Thor’s tour, and I can’t wait until it’s my turn to host him. 🙂

I can totally relate to your dad being annoyed after touring a fake Alamo. I really wanted to tour Fort Michilimackinac up north…until I found out it wasn’t the original fort. But next time I go up, I’ll probably suck it up and visit because it’s still interesting, and from what I understand, they tried very hard to get it right.

Plaque readers, hmm? I am and I’m not. It depends on whether I find the first few sentences interesting. I often do, especially if it involves historical information. You just never know what ideas you might get for a story. 🙂

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Thor has a lot of happy hostesses awaiting him. Are you already making plans?
I read plaques, but not all as I usually have the kids and they simply do not last. I end up trying to keep them content while the husband reads every plaque in the exhibit. It can be a real challenge.

  13. tedstrutztedstrutz

How can Thor possibly be happy about going to Texas? I think I would have liked your dad… I read every plaque too… and would have been pissed at the fake Alamo.

    • Debra KristiDebra Kristi

Thor has enjoyed every stop so far. Are you making plans already? I don’t know too many people that would have been alright with that situation at the Alamo.

      • tedstrutztedstrutz

Thor will have the best time here. I’ve talked to my granddaughter about the available of her Barbies, although I could not dare to compete with that other Washingtonian in the Barbie Department… one good one is enough I think. But big plans are afoot…
