The Scavenger Hunt ~ to win a Kindle Mini!

We huddle in a tight cluster as crisp wisps of air swirl around us, sending a shiver through my bones. Pulling my jacket tight around me, I attempt to fight off the evening chill. We are all waiting for Sam to pass out the list for tonight’s event. It’s our semi-annual scavenger hunt and this time I plan on our team killing the competition. There had better not be any beyond impossible items to find this time.

My school volleyball team is pitted against the basketball team, and they’re as cocky as all get out. They need to go do! Oh sure, the swim team and cheerleaders are here, too.  But they’re no competition. It’s the basketball team we need to slaughter tonight.

Little white puffs come with each breath and I jam my fists deeper into my pockets. Dang! When did it decide to get so cold? Julie’s nose is turning red. I bet mine is, too. Only I can’t see it.

“Okay, losers. Listen up.” Sam arrives with the list and we are all ears. “You have two hours to collect as many items on this list as possible.” Somebody mumbles while another laughs making an unheard joke. “You done? Shut it.” Sam looks annoyed. Everyone quiets down and gives him their full attention. “As I said, two hours. Collect as many items as you can. I don’t want to hear about any property damage, traffic violations, pranks or whatever. Get the picture?” Waiting quietly for our answer, we all nod and mumble in response. I know we are all agreeing now, but rules are going to be broken once we leave the campus. It’s just the way this game is played.

Holding our sealed envelope, we gather into our individual teams as Sam addresses us again. “First group back with the most items in the designated time frame wins. Don’t open your envelopes until you leave campus. On your mark…” We all get ready to run for our cars. “Get set…” Every muscle tenses up as I prepare to bolt forward.

The whistle blows and we’re all running for our cars at top speed. Julie and I jump into her Camry with Sue, Diane and Lisa sliding smoothly into the back. The rest of our gang is in their respective cars. The cell in my pocket begins to ring and it’s our team ready to coordinate. Diane rips open the envelope. The list is two pages long. Heather’s on the other end of the line. They agree to start at the back of the list. We’ll start at the front. Off in another direction they drive.

“Chocolate covered ants!” Diane exclaims. “And a Kindle Mini! Sam can’t seriously expect us to find someone with candy covered bugs in their home. Or someone willing to give up expensive electronics. That’s just crazy!”

And so another zany scavenger hunt begins. I don’t care what insane crap has been put on that list. I can’t stand to see those cocky ball-bouncing jerks win again this year. I think I know just the place to start our search…

You, too, can participate in a scavenger hunt – a blog scavenger hunt! It will take place all week-long, and all you need to do is find the right answers to the questions asked. The answers will be hidden in the participating blogs listed on Samantha Warren’s blog site. And guess what? There are cool prizes to be won including a Kindle Mini! So head on over and check out the details.

In addition to Samantha Warren’s big birthday bash event, I will be giving away my own little prize. I will pick a winner from everyone who leaves a comment, starts following this blog, tweet, retweet or links this blog on their Facebook page during this following week. I will enter your name one time, up to three times for each of the above. Drop me a line letting me know what to look for if you are a new follower or strictly using Facebook. Every entry will be run through random.org to determine the winner. I will draw the line in the sand at midnight on Saturday. I’ll announce the big winner preceding the following Monday’s post. What is the prize you ask? I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on a brand new, just for you, Wii version of Skylander’s: Spyro’s Adventure. It’s the perfect holiday gift if you have a game player in your family!

So let’s play some games! Let the hunting begin.

And here I was thinking this was a memory, right up till the part about the Kindle. 😉

I love that story! It took me back to university days (though I wasn’t on a sport’s team). Samantha had a brilliant idea with this scavenger hunt, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for all of us.

I agree! It is a brilliant idea and should be a lot of fun! Let’s use it to our advantage and get as many people playing as possible. 😀

Fun! Brought back memories of scavenger hunts I went on back when I was younger. Nice writing! 🙂

Fun, right? I kept thinking of the time one came to my door and asked for the Christmas tree in my window. Um, hello? I kind of like my tree. Not to mention the fact it was plugged in and the mound of fake snow that was piled on top of it would have been a real B*tch to move. Who puts Christmas tree on their scavenger list? LOL Thank for the compliment Serena. 🙂

What a fun idea! I saw that August and Fabio are participating as well. This will be fun!!

Great story as a lead up to the game.

Go to Samantha’s blog if you want the full list. I believe there are more than just the few you listed. Kristy and Lynn are participating and I think Marcy is as well! What a great idea she had.

Thank you for being a part of the Scavenger hunt. I know of a couple of gamers so thank you for the chance to win it. I’m so glad there’s no chocolate-covered ants to find!

You are very welcome. It is my honor to celebrate this big event with her. Yes, chocolate-covered ants do not sound very appetizing. Yuck! Good luck with your chances for the game. I have added your name to the list.

You totally had me fooled, too! I thought it was a story from your college days. Very clever. I was into it the whole time. But now I want to hear what happens. I hope those Basketball guys don’t win!

LOL Sorry Emma. Maybe I’ll just have to finish that story sometime. Need to bring those cocky ball-bouncing jocks down. 😀 (Nothing against basketball – my son used to play. Hehe)
