My family made it all the way to grandma’s goat farm (sorry – ranch) and back on Thursday without a scratch, but not everyone’s travel is confined to only one day. And it’s possible a small amount of casual banter was exchanged in regards to driving and road conditions. Thanksgiving weekend is the busiest travel time in the U.S. Were you on the road or are you still on the road? Has this senerio played out in the front seat of your car while driving?
Let’s hope not. There are plenty of would-be stunt drivers in training out on the road – i.e. enough stuff for Mrs. Potato Head to gripe about. So beee careful – and drive responsibly. Don’t be a Potato Head!
Side note: Wouldn’t it be convenient if we could pop the mouth off the one bothering us just like a Potato Head? If only.

Am I a backseat driver? If the need arises, you bet! Just ask my daughter, lol. I’m teaching her to drive at the moment. She’s actually doing quite well, but seems to be a magnet for deer. Her first time out ‘night’ driving, one deer ran out in front of her. Second night out, another ran out in front of her…followed by four of its buddies.
We’re still bickering, off and on, about the proper reaction to seeing a deer in (or at the side of) the road. My opinion….see deer/HIT BRAKES IMMEDIATELY!!! Her opinion….see deer/hesitate/hit brakes. So I continue to drive this message home….deer/BRAKES, deer/BRAKES, deer/BRAKES. DO NOT HESITATE….because I don’t want a repair bill if you hit Bambi.
Glad you made it to your destination and back safely. My sister hosted Thanksgiving dinner this year, but she’s only about half an hour from here so not much travel. I’m getting ready to throw a small turkey in the oven though. Gotta have leftovers… 🙂
One of the best things about Thanksgivings is the left overs. Just ask my husband. LOL
Sounds like there are a lot of deer in your area. Sure hope you and your daughter avoid them all and you both figure out the best approach to driving near them. I have only come across them in or around the road once. I was passing through Oregon. It was night time and as I came around the curve three of them were smack dab in the middle of the road. Dang! Brakes fast! Everything turned out alright.
*giggle* We spent six hours in the car yesterday driving to Boca…with my mother in the backseat so yeah, there was “some” desire to rip off body parts and toss them out the window 🙂 Still recovering today…blah Glad you had a good Thanksgiving!

Very funny! Reminds me of the time we were driving in Yellowstone and the road was blocked by a herd of buffalo. . . . stinky creatures and HUGE! Thanks for the laugh!

That was hilarious! I do wish we could pop people’s mouths off, or at least mute them sometimes. I only had to drive 3 minutes away, but something about today makes me want to stay away from my car and off the road.
I can’t tell you how many times I wish my kids had a mute (or off) button on the back like Data from Star Trek. That would be AWESOME! Lucky for you! 3 minutes isn’t so bad. Hope your day was wonderful!
Debra, are you a Trekker? I confess that I am to the extent that I go to the convention in Las Vegas every year…this year I won third place in the costume contest of 1040 costumes with my remote controlled Horta….just ask yourself…what do retired science teachers do with their extra time?

I’ll admit to having a lot of experience with Star Trek. Friends that worked on the shows for years, etc. I know most of the story arcs, although I know very little about DS 9. When I was a kid I used to watch the original.
It sounds like you could tell some good stories about it. My sister and I started going 6 years ago when she had just retired and all of my kids were grown and married. We wanted to go do something totally silly… and what is more silly than to go to a Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas? Well we went that year and became addicted. It is our sister time every year. In my book, I tell the story of finding a dirty old man ghost in our room 2 years ago. It was very funny…he kept hiding things like her bra and then putting them back exactly where she knew she had put it. And he kept locking us out of the room. There was a psychic at the convention selling ghost tours. I told him that I did not need to go on a tour because the ghosts come to me. He just said, “The ghost in your room is named Bob and he’s enjoying having you in his room and hiding things from you. He’s with you now.” I had not told him any of that. Amazing.
No travelling for my family, since we’re in Canada and celebrated our Thanksgiving in October but I’m glad to hear that you all had a safe journey to your holiday destination, then back home! 🙂

We stayed home for Thanksgiving, as usual. I love roasting my own turkey and preparing all the trimmings. It’s always amazing how fun this is — maybe because I cook with my husband and the kids are very helpful too. Thanksgiving is always relaxing in our home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂

LOL I would like to be able to mute my husband while he’s talking on the phone! Especially if it’s in the car, whether or not he’s driving, because he is LOUD. If I’m trying to write, I have to pick up my binder and notes, leave the room, and shut the door! Headphones aren’t enough.
I’m sorry Jeannette. So many times I’ve had to lock myself away in my room just to think. But my life is noisy – kids! Hope you can find that quiet when you really need it.

Thanks Lynn. It’s not really a large working goat farm or ranch. I jokingly call it a farm and my step-dad prefers I call it a ranch. They only have a couple of goats left now. They had more but the goats ate the land bear. It didn’t work out too well. But the neighbors one the left and behind them have more! Plus there are other animals in the mix. It’s fun to step out of the city into the country life now and then.
That video is awesome–i will keep that mouth popping off visual in my head for those moments when driving Zen is needed. lol
