debrakristi

Debra Kristi writes deep-point-of-view YA (young adult) fiction that will drop you in the middle of the drama and have you experience the adventure as if you are part of the story.

Award winning and USA Today Bestselling Author Debra Kristi writes addicting young adult fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal adventures. Born and raised a Southern California girl, she still resides in the sunny state with her husband, two kids, and several schizophrenic cats.

Unlike many of the characters in the stories she writes, Debra is not immortal, and her only superpower is letting the dishes and laundry pile up. When not busy drumming away at the keyboard spinning new tales, Debra is hanging out creating priceless memories with her family, geeking out to science fiction and fantasy television, and tossing around movie quotes.

Five random things about Debra Kristi:
  1. Debra’s first car was a 1962 Buick Skylark. The car had been in the family since ’62 and had sat, unused in a garage for many years before becoming hers. Not only would the car not run, but the hood wouldn’t open. Together with her father and uncle, Debra dismantled the engine, cleaned the individual parts, put it back together, and got that car running.
  2. Today, that Buick Skylark sits comfortably in Debra’s garage. At one point, Debra actually owned three Skylarks (Slightly obsessive, maybe? *snicker*).
  3. When she was four-years-old, Debra decided to explore her neighbor’s backyard. She ended up getting bitten by a monkey. A monkey! In the neighbor’s yard!
  4. Debra believes in ghosts (the energy of those who have moved on). She saw her first ghost when she was five-years-old; an old man who had died in the house her parents had just bought.
  5. On a dare, Debra once (properly) burned her finger on a car’s backseat cigarette lighter.
Debra is currently unrepresented by any agency. Her novels are published through Ghost Girl Publishing LLC. Inquiries regarding translation rights, literary representation, or other business matters should be directed through the form on her connect page.

Always nice to meet a fellow geek. I also talk to dead people, spiritual feelings can be very powerful motivators for writing. Looking forward to reading your blog.

Debra, I bookmarked your blog. Like many writers, you’re an artist who owns a pretty sense of vitality and balance when it comes to design. You speak of your sister as an ever-present partner and source of motivation. I’m curious to read more about her. I grew up with three brothers. One of them died in April 2010. I miss him, yet I feel as if he’ll forever be a part of who I am.

It’s all about the girl power! Forever Buffy ❤ Kind of wish Whedon would come back to the small screen. But I’m excited for his new film. 🙂

I always felt a little crazy until I started embracing the stuff that went on in my head, and letting it out on pages…digital as of yet though they may be. Happy to have “met” you a little here. I love Greek mythology, though I still owe my 7th grade English teacher a report on the subject. Had it all written, too. Just never did the final draft. Hmm…meant to be a writer (a la procrastinate much)? I think maybe so. Fixing that THIS year as I FINISH & prep my novel, #Bluebirds, to pitch at Chicago Writers Conference 2013! Dammit!

Hi Kim! It is a pleasure to meet you! You’ve found my “About Me” page sadly in need of an update. Hopefully I will find the time in my schedule to deal with that soon. So many things – so little time. I’m fairly certain that missing report you owe your 7th grade English teacher is keeping them up at night. Karma, you know how she can be. 😉 But seriously, congratulations on having a finished manuscript ready to pitch. That’s very exciting! Yay! That’s half the battle. Now don’t give up. Keep on, keeping on. What isn’t right for one person may be exactly right for the next. Always remember that. You’ve put together a very beautiful blog. I took the tour late last night/early this morning. Looks like you’re working with some very talented writers.
