It Starts with You

“You must personally accept the responsibility of improving your own life.” ~ Chögyam Trungpa

How often do you think your life is stuck in a rut? Do you look around and feel like everyone else has it pulled together better than you? Let me tell you a secret…they don’t.

It’s all a matter of perception.

Everyone struggles with daily woes. It’s human nature to focus on our own and not see the struggle hidden behind the eyes of another.

What are you doing to better yourself?

Life is a journey.

Hopefully (if we’re doing it right) a journey of improvement.

Don’t confuse improvement with the collection of material things. Although there is a measure of success there, we are looking at the inner you―the mind and soul. Finding your peace, your happiness.

“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”

~ Albert Einstein

Over the last year and a half I had fallen into a pattern, one that was playing havoc with my home life. Prior to setting foot onto this social media platform I used to be somewhat of a workout fanatic. Seriously! Every single day I would sweat for an hour. The side effects I felt were amazing and I was in fantastic shape. My regiment fit right into that little pocket of time I had before my kids came home from school. It was perfect.

Then someone told me I had to create a presence on all these platforms and something had to give. Yeah―my form, in the shape of my waistline. Ugh! So not cool. It was one or the other. Well guess what, I’m saying, “No it isn’t!”

Did you pay attention above?

Make the changes in your life to improve yourself. Make a happier you and you’ll accomplish so much more. I guarantee it.

Invest in life and life will flourish.

life flourish

Here is what I’ve done:

  1. Small windows of workout time each day. 3 x 10 Minutes Trainer with Tony Horton.
  2. Quality time with family each night.
  3. Me time―be it reading, furthering my education, organizing, planting, etc.
  4. Writing time with the muse!!!!
  5. Easing my way back into social media―multiple platforms.

What are you missing in your life? What changes are you going to make/adjust for?

Superhero Stuff: Stack Pie, Thor, and Pretty Flowers

Speaking of exercise, why not work off some of that amazing pie Coleen showed us with our hunky Norse god? Enjoy!

Thanks to our reader, Trese, for this share.

Thor is nearing the end of his tour. If you would like to be added to the list and have a visit from our mighty plastic god of thunder drop us a line.

A big yes for investing in life! Great post, Debra. And that video is funny. Thor needs the exercise after the stack pie. 🙂

Bwahahahaaa! That video was so bad that it’s brilliant! I couldn’t stop laughing.

Okay, seriousness now… I think you’ve been in my head lately, because I’ve been doing a bit of soul-searching and life re-evaluating myself. Mine has more to do with, how the heck to do I stop the world from spinning, but in all, these are questions and topics I often ponder. Finding time for it all.
We all want that. Good for you for taking a realistic approach to your day/life/career and figuring out how you can do what you need to do and still have time for what you want to do.

Prance on, my friend! I’m off to check out Thor’s visit with Coleen.

There must be some kind of collective unconsciousness going on here… I touched on this on my blog yesterday, and Marcy Kennedy had a really good post, too. I realized over the past couple of months that I just wasn’t getting out much aside from work, and was using writing as an excuse. So with my daughter off to college, I’ve made it a priority to be more present “in real life” and with friends, and what do you know – I’m writing just as much!

Yay for you on taking the 10 minutes, three times a day. That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing (after much research on the subject-better to move for shorter periods of time more often).

I think we all need to do some soul-searching every now and again to take a look at where we are, what’s working, what’s not…and make changes in our course as needed. Sounds like you’ve got a good handle on that now.

LOLOLOL about the video. I wonder if Chris Hemsworth has seen it because the guy bear a remarkable likeness to him.

Speaking of that, I had to stop at the store for pet food and water…and saw a guy who could be the younger brother of Matt Davis (Alaric Saltzman on TVD, for those of you who don’t know who I’m talking about). For the first time in my life I actually wheeled my cart around to buzz back down the aisle he was stocking in…just to get a better look. Dang I hope no one actually watches the video footage from their cameras. I was literally peeking over and around displays to look at him. How humiliating… But I’d have done it again if he’d still been there when I got back to that side of the store. 🙂

Oh, poor Thor…all that power and two left feet. 😉 I think you’ve made a great point about investing in yourself. I, too, am just now getting back to that point. Today, while doing my edits outside by the pool, I rewarded myself with a couple of laps between every couple of pages I got done. 😉 Why can’t I mix exercise with my writing?

Ain’t that the truth sista! Good for you Debra. Sometimes you just have to get off the train and change your direction in order to catch your breathe. I don’t have kids at home and had to stop for a while. Each week I keep telling myself that I need to write a post. As you can see, it still hasn’t happened. Yet, I’m not losing sleep over it. There must be something wrong with me. lol. Great to see you back Debra. I can see that Thor is causing more havoc. Off to visit Coleen Patrick. No telling what he’s been up to now. Take care girl! 🙂
